Acne Scars/ Keloid Scars

Acne scars are the result of damage to the skin caused by severe acne. When acne lesions penetrate deep into the skin, they can destroy the skin's collagen and elastin fibers, leading to scarring.

Are there different types of acne scars?

The different types of acne scars, include:

  • Atrophic scars (depressed scars)-hypertrophic scars, keloid scars, and papual scars.
  • Hypertrophic scars (raised scars)- these include ice pick scars, rolling scars, and boxcar scars.

What are the best treatments for my scars?

The type and depth of the acne/keloid scars will determine the best treatment for you.

  • Bellafill: An injectable that provides immediate volume to acne scars, helping to lift and smooth out depressed areas. The PMMA microspheres stimulate the body's natural collagen production over time, leading to long-lasting improvement in the appearance of acne scars.
  • MicroTox: Decreased the growth factors and connective tissues that produce scar tissue, increases collagen to smooth the area.
  • Kenalog: An injectable steroid that helps decrease the inflammation and suppresses the immune response which can help the scar smooth and flatten out.
  • Morpheus 8:
The Morpheus8 RF sends energy through microneedles, which penetrate the skin to stimulate collagen production and resurface the skin.
Morpheus8 can help improve the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and other types of scars by promoting collagen production and skin tightening. The RF helps to smooth out the skin's texture and reduce the appearance of scars. It is important to note that the effectiveness of Morpheus8 for scar treatment may vary depending on the type and severity of the scars.
  • Microneedling: For more surface level scars microneedling will be great because it is less intense than the Morpheus 8 but still breaks apart the scar tissue and stimulates collagen.
  • Chemical Peels: Chemical resurfacing of the skin will improve the texture of scars and stimulate collagen. Different levels of peels may be needed depending on the severity of the scars.

Most client will need 3+ session of each treatment, the more severe scarring the more treatments may be needed.
